Summer Intern Series: Photo Shoot in the City with Sophia Cook
Photo Shoot around Boston's neighborhoods
On July 20th, 2021, my fellow interns, Sharon and I went in Boston to do an on-site photo shoot to take photos to update clients websites. We went to three areas and began in the Hyde Park Main Streets neighborhood. In this district, I had the opportunity to walk with Sharon and we were able to talk my interests in marketing and I was able to learn more about her as a business women and as a person. Hyde Park is named the friendliest district and I was able to experience this sense of community first hand. Sharon and I had passed a small eye glass business named Cleary Square Eyecare and she told me her and her son had gone there to get their prescription eyewear. When we were walking back to our cars, Sharon saw the Executive Director and the women had remembered Sharon and they talked to each other. In this district, Sharon also pointed out the different signage on buildings and how each district and landlord have different rules and regulations for the signs. I was able to learn a lot by walking with Sharon through this area.
The second district we went to was Mattapan, and we split into twos again and I was with my fellow intern Rolinda. Being able to walk and take photos with Rolinda allowed for me to notice parts of the district that I would not have seen otherwise, such as murals and signage. Seeing the photos Rolinda took which were taken very close together but still had different perspectives which I thought was neat. Mattapan was the busiest out of the three districts and a lot of people were on the streets talking, buying from local stores, or just walking. A lot of the commercial business in this district had left and local business have taken over and it was nice to be able to photograph these stores and promote them online.
Being able to go into Boston and do an on-site photograph shoot was very beneficial to see the different aspects of marketing and how photographs can bring in more business for local business owners. I am excited for the next time we are able to do this and the opportunity to see more districts in Boston.
